ISSUE 47: 9 dresses for going places
Always, ALWAYS make sure you have a good hair day, your make up on (and maybe even some self tanner) before you try on a fitting room's worth of dresses
The Debrief is a weekly newsletter - because the post life event chats are (almost) always better than the event itself. Forever honest and aesthetic driven.
“Your massive perfectionism may be the problem.” My sister Stephanie wrote me in a text this week.
I’d been stewing over why I don’t share more on social media these days (things like a lack of time are at the forefront, but when I admitted that I literally have posts and captions all planned out yet still cannot bring myself to share - leave it to my sister to call me on it).
A client this week also might have mentioned that I massively overdeliver.
So this seems to be a theme that the universe is bringing to my attention and while I want to be dismissive of the advice that I should work on it (because who has time to work on trying to deliver less, demand less from oneself?)… maybe I should in fact work on it.
Tonight I sent my intention all towards that bubble of perfectionism during my daily meditation. Does that count?
Either way we’re not here to tend to my expectations of myself, but rather to discuss something far lighter - what to wear to a summer event. So here we go.
9 Dresses for Going Places this Spring & Summer
I stopped by local Ottawa clothing boutique Tallow to find a dress for a summer wedding.
1 | This Faithful set (skirt & top) would have come with me had the sleeves not been long sleeves and had the occasion I was shopping for not been in the smack damn middle of summer. It was so fun and made of a silk blend which felt amazing on.
2 | This dress was amazing for my small boobs. It gave them life when they normally have to sulk inside of billowing fabric. It almost came home with me.
3 | If I were to host a garden party - this would be the dress I would wear (just be sure to size down). It was so flattering on, yet airy. The pattern reminded me of my grandparents patio set in the best way possible.
4 | While this dress felt a little structured for the vision I had, the pattern was gorgeous and the straight across neckline is always a favourite of mine
5 | Anything Spell in the summer feels like a dream on and this one with the lace up details on the back fit so beautifully. I love the way they mix patterns.
6 | This blue and white number needs to be worn on a beach.
7 | This one came home with me. It’s linen and the pattern is stunning and the back is so gorgeous on. I can’t wait to style it and wear it out this summer.
8 | For a more casual event this dress would be perfect. I love the slightly sheer nature of the fabric and the fact that although it was billowy, it still fit in all the right places.
9 | Loved the pattern on this Auguste dress and the fact that the straps are removable.
5 things I saved from the week
01| Some spring mani inspo
02 | I’ll take one of each please
03 | The sign + the awning = the perfect combo
04 | Counts as a neutral in my books
05 | “We move so fast, yet we have no time for anything.” - her captions always get me.
